HotFrog Debuts at Number Three in Nielsen Online Ranking Report

Published August 16th, 2009

HotFrog (www.hotfrog.com) the world’s fastest growing business directory, has ranked third out of 50 web properties in its first appearance in the latest Nielsen Online Ranking Report.

The Nielsen Online Ranking Report shows HotFrog attracting 73,000 unique browsers a day, and 390,000 page impressions a month. HotFrog outstrips all of Australia’s other online media players bar commbank.com.au and ASX and sits above news.com.au/business and SMH-business, which are placed four and five respectively.

The HotFrog concept emerged from Reed Business Information’s (RBI) Sydney office four years ago, and has grown rapidly into a global Internet business.

Since its launch, HotFrog has attracted more than 37 million businesses to list in 32 countries. It generates 65 million page views a month worldwide, and employs over 50 Internet technologists.

An open data structure allows HotFrog’s businesses to classify what they are, and describe what they do, in a way that makes sense to them, rather than force them to conform to rigid, predetermined directory categories.

This flexibility has resonated strongly with businesses that are listing themselves by the thousands worldwide every day. In Australia over a thousand businesses update their details every couple of days.

User generated content is key to HotFrog’s successful web 2.0 play and it has amassed a vast amount of rich data from its users, which keeps it high in search engine rankings, and that has driven more traffic and more businesses to list with it.

Andrew Dent, managing director of HotFrog’s global network was one of the team of three that launched the product in Sydney.

“I’m delighted to see HotFrog perform so strongly in the Nielsen Online Ranking Report. These results validate our philosophy to make it easy for people to find stuff online and make it easy for businesses to explain what they do, whether it’s a product, a service or an intellectual offering and in turn attract targeted sales leads,” says Dent.

Listing on the site is free and businesses can add unlimited additional information.

HotFrog is operated by Catch, an online division of Reed Business Information Australia.
