E-business conference to be held in Coventry

A conference guaranteed to help West Midlands businesses wanting to delve into the world of the web is taking place in Coventry.

Michael Smith, founder of Firebox.com, who sells gizmos and gadgets from his successful online business - including the famous Waterbuoy key ring that appeared on BBC series Dragon’s Den last year - will be speaking at the free event.

Michael will be sharing his e-business expertise and the story of how his internet business survived the dot-com boom and bust in 2000, and has now rapidly grown to a team of over 40 staff and last year turned over £11.4 million.

E-Business 2008: Creating a future advantage, is the first annual conference from The National B2B Centre, and will give businesses an in-depth insight into internet business through a combination of guest speaker presentations and interactive workshops.

Businesses throughout the UK are invited to the event on Thursday, September 25, at the University of Warwick, where they can choose from a number of workshops taking place on the day, including website law, trading on the web, basics of security, wi-fi threats and building your business on a social network.

Penny Power, founder of ecademy - the UK’s biggest business networking site - will also be speaking at the event, along with Dave Chaffey, of Marketing Insights, who has been described by the Chartered Institute of Marketing as an eMarketing guru.

Attendees will have the opportunity to take advantage of networking with other businesses during coffee breaks and a free buffet lunch. There will also be an exhibition showing off what’s available from a variety of regional business support organisations.

Gareth Edwards, of the National B2B Centre – the e-business centre of excellence for the West Midlands, said: “This is a great way for businesses to learn how to develop by using the internet.

“The fact that this event is completely free and offers so much is a fantastic opportunity.

“People who already have a business website and a basic understanding of e-business will probably get the most out of the event, but business owners, managers, and marketers of all growing small and medium sized businesses will benefit from the advice and knowledge of the e-business entrepreneurs and experts speaking at the conference.”

Places are free and limited to one per company, but it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment. The conference starts at 9.30am and finishes at 4pm with workshops and presentations throughout the day.
