EDF to takeover British Energy

France’s EDF is in discussions about an £11bn takeover of nuclear generator British Energy (BE) in a deal that would also give Centrica a stake in the UK company.

The two sides are hoping to wrap up an agreement within days, giving EDF control of BE’s eight reactors and a role in building Britain’s planned new generation of nuclear power stations.

Yesterday, BE admitted that it was in “advanced discussions” with an unnamed bidder, but the identity of the potential buyer is widely known as EDF.
