Meridian defends carbon-credit auction

Published September 7th, 2007

Meridian Energy has branded critics of its carbon credit trading project on Trade Me as self-interested forestry lobbyists.

The green energy company is presently offering carbon credits for sale on the popular auction-site.

Once purchased, buyers can then elect to ‘retire’ the credits as a way of reducing global CO2 emissions. Each unit of credit has its own serial number which will be associated with the buyer.
