Alstom wins deals worth $2.5 billion

French heavy engineering group Alstom said on Monday it had won two power plant contracts worth a combined 1.85 billion euros ($2.51 billion).

The Paris-based group said it had signed a 850 million euro contract with RWE npower plc for the construction and maintenance of a combined-cycle power plant in Staythorpe in the United Kingdom.

Separately, an Alstom-led consortium won a contract worth 1.6 billion euros to build a 2,000 megawatt power desalination plant in United Arab Emirates. Alstom said its share of the work was worth 1 billion euros.
